How to Import Files

Step 1: Click the Provider Icon

Click the icon for your cloud storage provider. You’ll see a tooltip showing the provider name when you hover.

Step 2: Sign In

You’ll be prompted to sign in and authorize access. This authorization is remembered for your browser session.

Step 3: Select Files

A file picker opens showing your cloud storage contents:

  • Navigate through folders to find files
  • Select multiple files at once
  • Only supported file types are shown (based on your plan)

Step 4: Import

Click to confirm your selection. Files are queued for import and processing begins automatically.

Import Options

Before importing, you can configure:

Target FolderUpload directly to a folder by clicking the provider icon on a folder row

Importing to a Specific Folder

You can import cloud files directly into a folder:

  1. Find the folder in your document browser
  2. Hover over the folder row
  3. Click the cloud storage icon that appears
  4. Select files from your cloud storage
  5. Files are imported directly into that folder

During Import

  • A progress indicator shows import status
  • Files appear in your document list as they’re processed
  • You can continue working while files import
  • If duplicates are detected, you’ll be notified after import completes

Google Workspace Files

Google Drive supports native Google Workspace documents:

  • Google Docs — Automatically converted to text
  • Google Slides — Automatically converted to presentation format

Formatting and charts are not preserved — only the text content is extracted.

Permissions

Cuneiform Chat requests minimal permissions:

  • Read access to selected files only
  • No write access to your cloud storage
  • No access to files you don’t explicitly select

You can revoke access at any time through your cloud provider’s settings.

Sync Behavior

Currently, cloud imports are one-time imports:

  • Files are copied at the time of import
  • Changes in cloud storage are not automatically synced
  • To update content, re-import the modified files

Tips

  • Select multiple files at once to save time
  • Only supported file types appear in the picker (based on your plan)
  • Use folder-level import for better organization
  • Large files may take longer to process after import

Common Questions

Q: Do I need to re-authorize each time? A: Usually not. If your session is active, clicking the icon opens the file picker directly. You may occasionally need to re-authorize after clearing your browser data or using a new browser.

Q: Can I import entire folders? A: Currently, you select individual files. Navigate into folders in the picker to select files within them.

Q: What happens to my original files? A: Your cloud files remain unchanged. We create a copy in your Content.

Q: Why don’t I see some files in the picker? A: Only supported file types are shown. Check the supported file types for available formats.

Troubleshooting

Authorization Issues

If you can’t connect:

  • Check you’re signed into the correct account
  • Try revoking and re-authorizing access
  • Ensure third-party app access is enabled in your provider settings

Import Failures

If files fail to import:

  • Verify files are in supported formats
  • Check files aren’t corrupted
  • Ensure you have permission to access the files
  • Try importing fewer files at once
